Workshop on “Building curriculum standards to meet the competency standards of Vietnamese pharmacists"

On March 29, the Faculty of Pharmacy, LHU attended an online workshop on "Building curriculum standards to meet the competency standards of Vietnamese pharmacists” organized by Hanoi University of Pharmacy.

Attending the workshop, from the Ministry of Health, there was Dr. Nguyen Thi Dong - Department of Science, Technology and Training; from the Ministry of Education and Training, there was Dr. Nguyen Phuong Hien - Department of Higher Education. From Hanoi University of Pharmacy, there were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hai Nam – Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Thanh Hai - Vice Rector and more than 200 delegates from Pharmacist training institutions nationwide.

Attendees from LHU Faculty of Pharmacy were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Hoa - Programme Consultant; Dr. Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh - Dean; lecturers and staff of all departments.

Speaking at the workshop, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hai Nam - Rector of Hanoi University of Pharmacy emphasized the important role of building curriculum standards to meet the competency standards of Vietnamese pharmacists. The aims of the workshop were to find out the current state of training and the need to build the standards for undergraduate pharmacy curriculum in Vietnam; share the standards framework draft presented by Hanoi University of Pharmacy and get opinions from the participants on the draft.

Also at the event, Ms. Tran Thi Lan Huong from the Training Department, Hanoi University of Pharmacy presented the speech "Building curriculum standards to meet the competency standards of Vietnamese pharmacists".

 

Within the framework of the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Hoa representing LHU's Faculty of Pharmacy, said LHU's Pharmacist training program was the 2nd one in Vietnam to meet the AUN-QA standard. Its curriculum was completely compatible with the standards draft presented at the workshop. He also made some suggestions to improve the draft framework such as considering the organization of the General Theory exam; adding a number of necessary subjects to the specialized knowledge part such as Pharmaceutical Information Technology, GPs, Scientific Research Methods… and how to make students to follow different major orientations but still ensure the output standard of the curriculum.

Speaking at the closing session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Thanh Hai - Vice Rector sincerely thanked all the delegates for their unanimous support, especially their comments on the standards framework draft proposed by the Pharmacist Training Program Standardization Department of the Hanoi University of Pharmacy.
